North Devon Council’s executive likely to give final go ahead for ‘viewing plaza’ scheme by Damien Hirst’s famous statue.
THE final go-ahead for ‘phase 3’ of plans for Damien Hirst’s 67 foot Ilfracombe statue look set to be approved by councillors tomorrow (Tuesday).
North Devon Council’s executive committee will be asked to approve proposals by Hirst’s company Science Ltd for a new raised viewing areas, seating and signage around the pier statue.
The scheme has already received planning permission but requires council approval for it to take place on its land.
It comprises a raised ‘viewing plaza’, new seating, an interpretation panel and the words ‘Truth / Justice’ etched into the wall around the seating area.
The project will be paid for by Science Ltd and is expected to take two to there months, and scheduled to commence shortly, subject to approval.
