Two vehicles, a shed and three LPG gas cylinders were destroyed in the fire at Northam yesterday (Sun) which is being treated as suspicious.

A FIRE which destroyed a campervan, car, shed and three gas cylinders in an enclosed garden in Northam is being treated as arson.

Police are appealing for anyone who saw anyone acting suspiciously in Lower Cleave, between 12.30am and 12.45am on Sunday.

It took fire crews from Appledore and Bideford more than four hours to put out the fire after finding the small Roma campervan, green Citroen Saxo and shed well alight.

They were alerted to the blaze by a neighbour who saw flames coming from vehicle.

At around 3.40am, it was confirmed one of the LPG gas cylinders had been leaking and crews used a cooling jet on it while liaising with a gas engineer for further advice.

An hour later, fire crews confirmed the cylinder, which was damaged in the fire, had been removed to safety.

Crews continued to apply a hose reel jet to break down the gas, and by 5.10am the fire was extinguished.

An investigation into the cause of the fire in still going and anyone with any information is asked to call police on non-emergency number 101 quoting crime reference CD/13/1311.
