Updated: More stormy weather on the way for North Devon

Weather warnings for wind and rain issued across North Devon for Tuesday and Wednesday.

HEAVY rain and strong winds are set to batter North Devon with severe weather warnings in place tomorrow (Tues) and Wednesday.

The yellow weather warning has been issued by the Met Office from 6pm on Tuesday until 11am on Wednesday.

A chief forecaster for the agency said: “A low pressure system is expected to develop in the West Atlantic on Monday, deepening rapidly before moving northeast across the UK late on Tuesday through Wednesday.

“Given the rain associated with this system, and the saturated ground in many areas, there is a potential for further flooding from surface water or from rivers.

“This risk is highest in south west England, central southern England and parts of South Wales.

“Very strong winds with this system could in themselves lead to disruption and will also bring the potential for some coastal flooding due to large waves and high tides.”

Gusts of up to 70mph are also forecast in coastal areas.

Will Stephens, RNLI coastal safety staff officer, said: “With more stormy weather forecast, we’re asking people to take extra care if they’re going down to the coast. Rough seas and extreme weather might look exciting, but getting too close can be risky. So respect the water and, in particular, avoid exposed places where big waves could sweep you off your feet.”
