TWO women had to be cut from their cars and airlifted to hospital after a serious collision between Holsworthy and Chilsworthy yesterday (Monday) morning.

The collision occurred a mile north of Chilsworthy on the Holsworthy to Bradworthy road involving a Mitsubishi Shogun and a Ford Fiesta at around 9.20am.

The Shogun overturned, causing the 62-year-old driver to suffer head injuries.

The driver of the Fiesta, which ended up in a ditch, suffered serious pelvic injuries.

Fire fighters from Holsworthy, Hatherleigh, Bude and a heavy rescue vehicle from Middlemoor attended the scene.

Crews cut the casualties from the car using hydraulic rescue equipment and small tools. Both women were airlifted to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.
