SIR - I read with interest your report on the wind turbine falling over in Devon.
Our six year old Proven wind turbine fell over in high wind on the November 7, 2012 and I am now facing a fight with our insurance company.
They have declined our claim as they believe the foundation bolts failed due to stress over time and not a sudden wind gust.
At present I have extracted the foundation bolts and sent them to a metallurgy laboratory for inspection to see how or why they failed at my own cost in order to disprove my insurer’s opinion.
We live in the Pennines and our home is 1,200 feet above sea level on an exposed moor. The turbine provided power to the house and exported excess to the grid.
The turbine manufacturers Proven ceased trading some time ago and their affairs were taken over by Kingspan Wind, who despite being a huge international company are not forthcoming to assist us with the cost of repairing and re instating the turbine.
Thankfully our nine year old twins were not playing in our field that day!
