Lynton Cinema awarded ‘excellence’ accolade by travel review website.

LYNTON Cinema has been awarded a Certificate of Excellence by travel website TripAdvisor.

The accolade, which celebrates hospitality excellence, is only given to businesses which consistently achieve outstanding traveller reviews on the website.

The 68-seat cinema, situated in a the grade II listed former Methodist Chapel in Lee Road next to the Town Hall, opened in 2001 and is open every day – except Christmas Day.

Director, Bill Pryor said the Tripadvisor accolade was a ‘great achievement’ for the popular cinema, which draws audiences from far and wide.

“We have regular patrons from across the moor and beyond, and have even had cases of people booking their holiday based on what film we were screening,” he said.

“But wherever you come from, you can be sure of one thing – a warm welcome.”

Cinema in Lynton and Lynmouth stretches back to World War One with the opening of the Picturedrome in 1916.

With a population of just 2,000 people, Lynton is thought to be the smallest town in the country to have a full time cinema.

It boasts comfortable seats, Dolby digital sound, heating, air conditioning and daily screening of the latest films.
