Still plenty of time to join the carnival on Saturday, September 20.

With 17 days to go until Barnstaple Carnival there is still plenty of time to enter a float or design your costume.

The parade on Saturday, September 20 will set off at 6pm, with assembly from 3.30pm along Castle Street and North Walk. Walkers will gather at the old railway station on the Strand.

The Carnival Queen is Taya Lambden, aged 15, with princesses Katie Shapland and Ashton Rose Todd.

Bideford Town Band and Devon Army Cadet Band will be joining the parade, plus – weather permitting – an ancient 1907 Stanley steam car.

It will follow the Strand to the Square, then Belle Meadow, Queen and Boutport streets, Mermaid Walk and return to North Walk.

The Children’s Carnival assembles by Queen Anne’s Walk at 2.45pm for judging at 3pm, with a loop along the Strand to the High Street and then back.

Both the Strand and Square will be bustling with stalls, sideshows and refreshments. Some pitches are still available.

There will be no firework display this year – Andy Shiner of Barnstaple Lions said with uncertainty regarding possible demolition at the Shapland site, it was not possible to gain permission.

To find out more, book a pitch or to enter, go to www.barnstaplecarnival.org.uk or call Andy Shiner on 01271 373180.
