Forecasters expecting build up of humidty to result in ‘intense’ thunderstorms and heavy rainfall.
HEAVY, thundery showers could be forming across North Devon on Saturday, as the Met Office issues a country-wide weather warning.
The forecasters say a build up of very warm and humid air and the end of the week will see potential for the development of ‘intense’ thunderstorms from Friday night.
The storms are set to travel northwards over Saturday, but the exact locations are still uncertain.
A chief forecaster for the Met Office said: “In this situation large amounts of energy are available in the atmosphere and this coupled with high moisture content can lead to torrential downpours along with frequent lightning activity, large hail and locally strong gusts.
“Many elements need to come together at the same time to form these thunderstorms and so there remains large uncertainty in their development.
“Indeed, the risk has been extended further west for this update, with further updates in the coming days.”
