Primary pupils show off their scarecrows and parade around the North Devon Show

MORE than 1,000 people voted in the BJ’s Value House schools’ scarecrow competition at last week’s North Devon Show.

The competition promoted growing, gardening and recycling with children in the community, with local schools each given a £20 BJ’s voucher to stock up on materials and create scarecrows, which were proudly displayed in store and then at the North Devon Show.

Members of the public were invited to vote for their favourite Scarecrow at the show, with the top prize of £100 in vouchers going to Instow Primary School, which narrowly beat Sticklepath and Braunton Academy.

Children also dressed up to take part in a scarecrow parade at the show, and entertained the crowds as they paraded around the Tarka Ring.

The parade was judged by Councillor Julie Hunt, deputy mayor of Barnstaple, who named Tallulah Birrell, Jayden Challacombe and Millie Ayers as under sevens winners, with the over sevens prizes going to Maisie Ayers, Fletcher and Roxy Powell.
