A crowdfunding campaign for a new restaurant in Ilfracombe has hit its target in just eight days.

Michelin star chef Thomas Carr is now set to open new restaurant Thomas Carr Seafood & Grill, in the premises of the old Lamb Hotel in the High Street.

A launch event is planned on March 15 and the venue will join his existing premises, Thomas Carr at the Olive Room, in Fore Street.

He said: “We hope to be able to get partly open during February, then build up to a full launch with the event on March 15,’’ said Thomas.

“We’ve been blown away by all the support we’ve received, not just in the money raised, but also the kind words and support.”

The campaign on crowdfunding website Kickstarter had a target of £15,000, with funds raised now at £18,405.

It is still running and backers can pledge anything from £10 – to get their name on the restaurant’s ‘wall of fame’ right up to £8,000 - for Thomas to cater an event or wedding for 50 guests.

Thomas added: “We don’t want to stop here; the reality of a new venture like this is it needs a fair amount to get everything up and running. We’re now all set to open, but to do things the way we’d really like to do them, we want to keep that total rising.”
