TROOPS from 1st Battalion the Rifles will be marching through the streets of Barnstaple on Sunday, April 29.

Around 250 people are expected to take part in the parade as the Rifles exercise their right to the freedom of Barnstaple, granted to the Devonshire and Dorset Light Infantry regiment before it became the Rifles.

Numerous local people have signed up to join the Rifles and more than a few familiar faces should be seen as the procession marches past. The Battalion returned from a six month tour in Afghanistan last autumn.

More details of the parade, timings and possible road closures are expected to be announced within the next couple of weeks.
