Last chance to nominate those promising pooches for the 2014 North Devon K9 Heroes awards – with the deadline on February 5.

Nominate your K9 Hero.Nominate your K9 Hero.

THERE is one final week left for you to tell us all about your canine companions and nominate them for the North Devon K9 Heroes awards.

The closing date for entries is Wednesday of next week (February 5) and all are welcome to nominate a star for the four-legged equivalent of new year honours created by Torrington based dog rescue charity K9 Focus in association with the North Devon Gazette.

Whether they are your pet, someone else’s, a working dog, true blue hero or just a big lapdog, see where they fit in to the categories below and let us know about them as soon as possible.

Dogs serve in all manner of capacities, supporting and helping humans in many different ways, sometimes obvious, sometimes unexpected.

Chris Turner from Torrington has nominated Georgie, who was a K9 Focus dog and originally arrived for fostering:

“Georgie came to me as a short term foster at a time that I was quite poorly and very depressed,” wrote Chris.

“In the short time that she has been with me she has lifted my spirits and become a big part of our family. Needless to say she will not be moving on from here, as I cannot imagine life now without her. My little life saver.”

Nominate a top dog for one of the following categories:

Pawsome Company - for any dog providing companionship.

Working Hero - for any sort of working dog.

Rescue to Hero – For any rescued or rehomed dog that has gone on to prove itself heroically and show bravery, in whatever way that might be.

Just Because - A category for any dog, just because you love them.

Send their story and a picture, via email to tony.gussin@archant.co.uk or by post to: K9 Heroes, C/O North Devon Gazette, Unit 3, Old Station Road, Barnstaple, EX32 8PB. Please include your address and a telephone number. We can only accept entries for dogs from within the North Devon area. The judges’ decision is final. Close: February 5, 12

K9 Focus relies on public help to keep going and anyone wishing to make a donation when they enter the competition is invited to visit www.k9focus.co.uk
