Holsworthy man was twice the drink drving limit, magistrates hear
A HOLSWORTHY man wrote off his car while trying to drive home after a night of drinking, magistrates have heard.
Fraser Smith, 18, of Milton Damerel flipped his Peugeot 106 car in the early hours of March 2 after clipping a curb near Landcross on the A386.
Smith, who appeared at North Devon Magistrates’ Court on Friday, was travelling home from Bideford, where he had planned to stay on a friend’s floor, when he collided with the curb at 2.45am. His reading of 150 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood was almost double the legal limit.
Defence solicitor Tony Dart said that Smith had planned to stay with a friend, but after returning to their house and seeing his car keys, he ‘foolishly’ decided to drive home.
“He is mortified that he should have committed this offence,” said Mr Dart.
Smith was handed an 18 month driving ban and ordered to pay £130 in fines and victim surcharge.
