Police search for missing bike which is thought to have gone over the cliff while rider recovers in hospital.

POLICE are searching for a motorbike off the cliffs at Lynton after the rider came off on a corner of a large hill and ‘somersaulted’ 150ft.

The 19-year-old from Honiton was airlifted to Derriford Hospital with back, leg and pelvic injuries at around 7.30pm last night (Tuesday) after he was discovered by hikers.

He had come off on the A39 and ended up on the coastal path. A police spokesman said his injuries were not life threatening.

Last night officers and the coastguard tried to locate the yellow and purple Kawasaki motorbike, which witnesses saw going over the cliff.

But thick gorse and the incoming tide did not help and the search continues this morning, though the beach cannot be check until low tide at 8pm tonight.

Anyone who has spotted the bike is asked to call police on non-emergency number 101 quoting log 0659 of September 2.
