Elephants, pigs, parrots and bears were seen parachuting their way down from the spire of St Brannock’s Church in Braunton on Saturday.

Young and old alike brought their favourite teddy bears to the parachute jump to help raise money towards the church.

Marguerite Shapland, one of the event organisers, said: “It was a very successful day, with the bears having a medical examination at the ‘Tedical Centre’ before their jump.

“We had a queue of young children and adults waiting for their bears to be winched up in the bear elevator.

“There were a few bumps and plasters, but luckily no teddy bears were damaged.

“Overall it was a very successful day and we couldn’t have asked for more with the weather.”

The morning also included a treasure hunt in the church, a teddy bear’s picnic with honey sandwiches and a raffle with bear-related prizes.

The total amount raised on the day is still being counted.
