THE All Things Morris Festival returns to Ilfracombe this July bigger, better and with bells on – not to mention the first ever North Devon Street Food Awards.

Last year’s off-the-wall community event proved hugely popular so organiser Events 4 Ilfracombe has doubled its size, with the action now taking place over Saturday and Sunday, July 12-13.

It is dedicated to Morris dancing, Morris cars and an exhibition of work by artist William Morris with two days of dancing, displays, live music, stalls and much more.

This year the North Devon Gazette has joined forces with the festival as its media partner to support and promote the event.

Building on the success of last year, organisers have introduced the new Street Food Awards, sponsored by Mardens Cottage Holidays.

On the Saturday the seafront will be packed with vendors selling tasty snacks and treats from all corners of the globe.

The highly sought after trophies will be known as ‘Maurices’ and the event is open to any street food vendors in North Devon and Torridge, with 35 places available.

It is free to take part and there will be several categories with a ‘best of the best’ winner plus a public vote and an extra ‘guest’ category sponsored by S and P Fish.

An outside bar will be provided by The Wizard Brewery, which is brewing a Morris ale for the event – with a naming competition set to be announced soon.

There will be some space for local produce stalls too – see below for contact details.

The clack of staves...

Throughout both days the ringing of bells, clack of staves and rustle of handkerchiefs will drift over the town, with a total of 11 Morris dance groups bringing music and merriment.

The Saturday will see dancing from 12noon-5pm along the seafront and at the harbour, where it continues on Sunday and in Fore Street, which will be closed to traffic for the day.

Public participation in the Morris antics is positively encouraged and in Fore Street there will also be an craft and arts fayre plus a mini beer and cider festival.

Once the Morris sides have finished around 5pm there will be folk and acoustic music from local bands and musicians into the evening.

Morris on Tour

Sunday will also see Morris on Tour, as more than 50 of the iconic British vehicles descend on the seafront after touring the Ilfracombe area. There will be a Morris show with trophies to be awarded by the Mayor including a ‘People’s Choice’ award. Local Morris owners are invited to join in by emailing the address below.

William Morris

An exhibition of the work of Victorian artist and philosopher William Morris will be hosted by The Pier Tavern and Grill in the week leading up to and including All Things Morris weekend.
