Police say surfboards allegedly coming off a car roof caused Friday’s A361 smash near Knowstone that injured six.
Surfboards flying from a car roof are thought to have caused a crash on the A361 North Devon Link Road which left six injured.
A Peugeot 206, Renault Megane and Triumph Spitfire were involved in the 11.30am collision at Knowstone on Friday, with the Triumph driver and his woman passenger airlifted to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth.
Police said one of two loose surfboards from a car in front was thought to have hit the Triumph passenger as the driver tried to avoid them, causing him to cross into the other lane. The pair were freed by the fire service and the man suffered serious injuries, ‘considered life-changing’. His passenger had head and hand injuries.
The Renault driver was taken to Exeter with a broken wrist and damaged neck vertebrae. Three passengers went to Barnstaple with less serious injuries.
