Cycling staff will be bidding to clock up the kilometres at Tesco Extra in Barnstaple this weekend for Diabetes UK.

STAFF at Tesco Extra in Barnstaple are following in the wheel tracks of the world’s greatest cycle race as they set off on the Tour de Tesco this weekend.

Without leaving the store foyer, they hope to complete at least 190.5 kilometres from Friday to Sunday – equivalent to the first stage of the Tour de France – to raise money for Diabetes UK.

To add a little extra interest, the event has been branded ‘taches versus lashes’, with beret-wearing men and women competing to see who can clock up the biggest mileage.

Today (Friday) they clocked up around a third of the distance and hope shoppers will show their support when visiting the store this weekend.

Other stores around the country will be hosting their own version of the Tour de Tesco this weekend and the company has announced its support for Diabetes UK is to be extended up until December.
