The 30-year-old swore at officers when they pulled him over before being handcuffed and taken to custody.

A WOOLACOMBE man drank a ‘large amount’ of vodka while on antidepressants before urinating in a couple’s front garden and driving off, a court heard.

Thomas Carr, 30, of Seymour Villas, pleaded guilty to drink driving after police were called out by the home owners and later found him driving around.

When officers pulled Carr on March 23 over he refused to get out of the car, swore at them and would not take a roadside breath test.

He was cuffed and taken to custody where he blew a reading of 103mg in 100ml of breath – nearly three times the legal limit.

On arrival at the cells, Carr broke down in tears, apologising to officers and telling them he had been planning to commit suicide.

The court heard two weeks before he arrested Carr’s nine-year-old son had been involved a serious collision and he had been suffering from depression.

A report by probation found Carr, who works as an executive chef, had taken steps to see a counsellor and have hypnotherapy treatment to try combat his issues.

Due to an earlier conviction of failing to provide a specimen in 2009, magistrates disqualified Carr from driving for three years – the minimum allowed.

They also ordered him to take part in a four month community order with the Engage programme, and pay a total of £245 in fines, costs and a victim surcharge.
