An open day will be held at the Burton Art Gallery on March 20.

A PROJECT uncovering memories of a locally unique pigment called Bideford Black is looking for local peoples’ stories.

The Burton Art Gallery and Museum is running the project led by local artists Peter Ward to bring together a collection of stories in an online archive.

Locals who remember the ‘treacle mine’, where Bideford Black, also known as ‘mineral black’ or ‘Biddiblack’ was commercial produced.

The project is also looking for volunteers to help find other people in the community who might have knowledge to share and to record their stories.

An open day will be held at the Burton on March 20 from 11.30am until 3.30pm for people to find out more and sign up.

Anyone with any stories, pictures or artefacts can contact the Burton on or by calling 01237 471455.
