Many murmurations among Bratton Fleming attraction staff after peculiar photograph comes to light.

EXMOOR Zoo staff could have been knocked down with a feather after they found a bizarre image while trawling through hundreds of photographs of their recent starling invasion.

Amid spectacular scenes of the stunning evening murmuration of starlings as they wheeled above the Bratton Fleming attraction in their thousands, one picture caught the eye.

It was nearly deleted by zoo director Lynn Reynolds, but something urged her to take a second look – and she was astounded to see the wheeling flock of birds appeared to spell out the zoo’s own name.

“We badly needed the disc space, so I was quickly skimming through them all and deleting the worst photos,” she said.

“This one was a bit off-kilter and my finger was already on the way to ‘delete’ when I did a double take, several in fact. It’s probably just a coincidence, but who knows, perhaps the birds were thanking us for being such good hosts?

“They were here every night in their thousands for about two months roosting in the zoo and giving the keepers extra work every day cleaning up after the nightly roost.”
