A SOUTH Molton man has pleaded guilty to speaking to a young boy while subject to a sexual offences prevention order.

Stanley Garland, 67, appeared at Barnstaple Magistrates’ Court on Friday after being held in custody overnight following police questioning.

Garland has been charged with speaking to a boy under the age of 16 while subject a SOPO, which included giving the boy a mobile phone and top-up credit and asking him to go on holiday with him.

Sitting magistrate Judith Kauntze deemed the matter too serious to be sentenced in the magistrates’ court and also ruled that Garland be remanded in custody until his trial date.

Garland will appear before Exeter Crown Court on July 24.
