Bideford man ordered to pay more than £400 in compensation

A BIDEFORD man who ‘threw his shoe at his friend’ has been ordered to pay more than £400 in compensation for breaking a car window.

Nathan Mark Stewart, 25, of North View Avenue smashed the rear window of a Honda Civic at 3.30pm on January 22 when he threw his shoe towards his friend, but missed and hit the car.

Stewart, appearing before North Devon Magistrates’ Court on Friday, admitted he was drunk at the time and called his actions ‘reckless’.

Rod Ball, for the defence, said Stewart had been on Facebook the next day to offer to pay for the damage.

He was given a conditional discharge, but told to pay £407.45 in compensation, plus £50 in costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
