The £950,000 scheme will be taking place over the next five months to avoid deterioration of the sewer network.

A £950,000 scheme to improve the sewer network in Bideford, Appledore and Northam will be taking place over the next five months.

South West Water and its H5O partners will be refurbishing the network as part of a five-year, £42 million investment in the sewer network across the region.

Work will begin in Appledore this week before moving on to Bideford.

Stephen Cross, project manager said: ““Without this necessary work the sewer network will continue to deteriorate.

“That can lead to collapses – which cause pollution, flooding and odour.

“We will be working hard to minimise disruption to the public and businesses as far as possible while completing these essential improvements.”

The work will be carried out using ‘no dig’ techniques wherever possible to minimise disruption to traffic.

However, some excavation will be necessary to rebuild damaged manhole chambers or to replace badly damaged pipes.

Myrtle Street and Marine Parade in Appledore will be closed from 6pm until midnight on Thursday, September 19, and from 6pm until 6am on September 24 and September 24, while the work is carried out.
