Two casualties reported, one airlifted to hospital, in West Buckland collision

Three casualties remain in a serious condition after collision on the North Devon Link Road near West Buckland junction on Sunday.

UPDATE: Monday, 9.30am: The driver and two passengers of a Vauxhall involved in yesterday’s collision remain in hospital in a serious condition.

A police spokesman said the driver of a Ford, also involved in the collision, had been discharged.

The North Devon Link Road was closed for eight hours before it reopened.

But this morning (Monday) there has been a separate collision in a similar spot - more details on this morning’s collision here.

Sunday, 12.35pm: A casualty has been airlifted to hospital with life threatening injuries following a serious collision on the A361 near West Buckland on Sunday morning.

The accident was reported at 11.37am following a collision on the North Devon Link Road near the West Buckland junction.

Police, fire service, ambulance and air ambulance were called to the scene.

A police spokesman said: “There were reports of persons trapped in the vehicle.

“Two vehicles were involved.

“There were two casualties, one of which has life threatening injuries. One has been airlifted to hospital.”

Crews from South Molton and Barnstaple attended the scene to help people trapped in vehicles.

Upon arrival, firefighters found four people trapped in the vehicles.

A fire service spokesman said: “Crews used hydraulic cutting equipment to remove one female and two children from one vehicle and one male from the other vehicle.

“Crews also used an environmental pack to make the drains safe as a small amount of oil was leaking.”
