Livestock market gets ‘long overdue’ upgrade.
THE second phase of a project to improve South Molton’s livestock market is now complete.
North Devon Council has repainted the market, replaced the roof, improved disabled access and updated the electrics and hot water system.
The old asbestos penning shed was replaced in the first phase two years ago.
The council’s rural champion, Councillor David Worden, said the upgrade was ‘long overdue’.
“I hope that it will now encourage more North Devon farmers to use the market.
“The next phase is the removal of redundant sheep pens and the creation of more car parking spaces and this will be warmly welcomed by those who find the central car park crowded on market days.”
Cllr Malcolm Prowse, executive member for economic regeneration, added: “I’m pleased to say that this project has been completed on time and within budget.
“It was very important to keep the market open while these essential works were carried out and feedback from the market users has so far been very favourable.”
