Council’s flag repair notches up milestone mark for Bideford business.

A BIDEFORD seamstress has celebrated her 1000th customer after Torridge District Council took its flag to be repaired.

Elyse McKenna opened Miss McKenna’s Sewing Services in Allhalland Street in December after being inspired by her three-year-old son Trysten.

“He’s the reason I started this business,” she said.

“I’ve built it up bit by bit with a sewing machine and other pieces bought from charity shops.

“We’re doing very well now, though it has been a tough year.”

Councillor Philip Collins, leader of Torridge District Council, said the council was delighted to be the 100th customer as it always tries to support local businesses.

He said: “We want to see specialised businesses like Miss McKenna’s Sewing Services doing well and thriving, making our town centres bustle.

“You can’t get this sort of service on the internet.

“The economy and jobs are top priorities for Torridge, and independent businesses like these are what make our market towns so unique and special.”
