Southmead pupils hope the community can help them create a new garden by donating recycled materials.

YOUNGER pupils at Southmead School in Braunton have been enjoying their new classrooms – but are not as keen on their back garden of pure mud.

The Foundation and KS1 pupils are desperate to get outdoors, but a lack of funding and constant bad weather has set back the plans to develop the garden.

Staff and pupils are appealing for donations of ‘waste’ items they can use to transform their garden, such as tractor tyres, wooden boxes or pallets, baths and sinks, surfboards and boats, logs and paving.

“Pupils are hoping to create dry pathways, raised beds, seating areas, homes for wildlife, and exciting spaces for explorative play,” said eco team leader Alice Coleridge.

“As a Silver Award Eco-School it is important for pupils to interact with nature, develop places for wildlife, cultivate food, and support the ethos of reducing, recycling, and reusing.”

If you can donate and deliver anything that will help towards the project, please call the school on 01271 812448 or email admin@southmead.devon.sch.uk.

Anyone who would like to get involved sharing their skills, tools, or time are also invited to call.
