Police hunt for three men who went on illegal shopping spree in the town this week.
SHOPS in Ilfracombe have been struck by a trio of men who used fake £20 notes during an illegal shopping spree.
The three spent a total of £220 in counterfeit money on Wednesday at nine premises, mostly in the quay area.
Police said it had occurred around lunchtime and targets had included Roly’s Fudge Pantry, the Sunspot Amusements plus the ice cream van near the theatre.
Inspector Roger Bartlett said they were keeping an open mind but thought the three suspects might not be local.
One suspect was more distinctive, described as of large build and in his 30s, with a balding head and tribal tattoos on his arms. He was wearing a blue t-shirt with a Batman motif, blue jogging bottoms and white trainers.
Another man was also in his 30s and wearing a grey top, with the third wearing a striped top.
Anyone who witnessed anything or who has any information is asked to call police by dialling 101 and quoting log 442 of July 9. Alternatively call in confidence via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
