The dock has reopened as a working dry dock for the first time in more than forty years.

THE first ship was brought in to Richmond Dry Dock to be broken in more than forty years arrived today (Thursday).

Decommissioned fishing trawler the Anneliese arrived at the dock just before 10am.

In February, the Gazette reported that the dock, which hasn’t been used as a working dry dock since the 1970s, was reopening.

The company FTD Marine are managing the dock under a five year contract leased to them by owner Simon Maunder.

Mr Maunder said: “In total we have four ships coming in this week and two next week which are all decommissioned fishing vessels from the company W Stevenson & Son, the UK’s biggest fishing fleet.”

The event caused quite a stir as locals gathered on the quayside to watch the Anneliese enter the dock and applauded as she did.
