Bideford and Barnstaple Round Tables have raised more than £20,000 between them with their record-breaking annual Santa Sleigh Runs.

Bideford raised £11,000, while Barnstaple had a total of £9,000.80.

Aaron Jackson, of Barnstaple Round Table, said: “We spent 13 nights out collecting in different areas of Barnstaple, Landkey, Newport, Ssticklepath, Whiddon Valley, Roundswell, Bickington and half of Fremington that Bideford Round Table were unable to do this year.

“We try to get to as many streets as possible to bring Santa out and about to bring some Christmas cheer and music to the people of our community as it is our community that benefits from these funds and those raised at our annual firework display which was £7,000.00 this year.

“We could not do this without the support we get from the public and the different local clubs, groups and charities that come out to help collect each night.

“We love doing this event to see all the reactions and smiles we get as we pass.”

Rich Levick, of Bideford Round Table, added: “I would like to say on behalf of Bideford Round Table how we are grateful for the support of the Torridge district in aiding us to raise a staggering £11,000 during our 14-night Santa tour.

“It has been yet another record breaking year and we can only achieve that with the generosity of the public.

“A huge thanks go to all members of Bideford Round Table, Bideford Ladies Circle and associates for our volunteer drivers and collectors.

“ Thanks must also be given to our sponsors including Redrow and Jamaica Press printers.”

All of the money raised will be given to local charities.
