New monthly street food market gets under way this June.

FOOD fans in Barnstaple will be in for a real treat when a new monthly food market gets under way in the pannier market this summer.

The Barnstaple Real Food Markets are being organised by an alliance of small food producers and hot food sellers.

The newly formed North Devon Small Producers Alliance (NDSPA) hopes to bring together some of North Devon’s finest street food scene traders, breweries, music and entertainment on the second Sunday of every month, starting on June 8.

Each month the market will raise money for a different local charity.

Traders already lined up for the first date in June include the Black Torrington-based Red Dog Bakery; bespoke sausage maker Glampig; the recently launched Big Pot Kitchen; Ilfracombe-based brewery Wizard Ales; and recently established street food outfit Seadog Foods.

Spokesperson Jim Coslett, of Seadog, said: “We see this market as a true celebration of the region’s food.

“The name says it all really – real food, made and served by passionate people who are working hard to widen people’s knowledge and enjoyment of local produce.”

The NDSPA is coordinating the market in conjunction with Barnstaple Town Centre Management and pannier market manager Simon Curry.

The group is inviting fellow producers to join them at their next meeting, being held at Alfie Browns on May 13.
