Could council install railings on Bideford Quay?

A safety review is being carried out on Bideford Quay and one possible option is to install railings along the riverfront.
The idea of installing railing along Bideford Quay was discussed at a Torridge District Council meeting last week.
The Harbour Board committee met on Thursday, where members heard from harbour master Paul Labistour.
Mr Labistour said the council was currently reviewing the health and safety of the Quay area.
Speaking after the meeting Sean Kearney, commercial and leisure service manager, said: “In the coming weeks, we will be reviewing the health and safety arrangements for the Quay.
“To manage that risk, one possible course of action might be to introduce a railing on the section of open Quay but that option will need to be weighed off against the needs of harbour users and be tested in terms of proportionality to the hazard.
“At this time, the council has no plans to introduce railings but the matter will be kept under review.”
