Carnival queen role links generations 60 years apart.

SOUTH Molton teenager Whitney Stoneman will follow in family footsteps when she is crowned the town’s carnival queen on Saturday.

Whitney, whose great aunt Christine Searle performed the prestigious role herself in 1954, will be crowned in the Square at 12noon ahead of this year’s carnival procession at 6pm.

She will be attended by South Molton Infant School pupils Eleanor Llewellyn and Flyn Weeks both aged six.

The carnival, organised by the Lions Club of South Molton and District, will assemble in Southley Road by the cattle market before 4.45pm with judging from 5pm.

It will head up New Road, along East Street and the Square, down South Street and along Mill Street before making another loop through the Square and back to Southley Road.

Entry forms are available from Webbers estate agents and walking classes can enter on the day up until 4.45pm.

This year’s carnival is being held to raise funds for the Pip Centre and South Molton Pre-school.
