Three thefts in a month spark crime prevention initiative
Boat owners in Instow are being warned by Police following a spate of thefts in the last month.
There have been three reported incidents in the last four weeks, in which boat motors and fishing equipment have been taken.
Officers believe that criminals are using a boat themselves under the cover of darkness to steal items from boats moored in the Torridge estuary.
Instow PCSO Jess Meaker said: “I am in close contact with the Yacht Club and am trying to raise awareness of such thefts and the need for owners to implement crime prevention measures.
“I am organising a crime prevention initiative including property marking which should take place in the next two to four weeks. I am confident that this will help stem the rise of this type of crime.
“In the meantime I have arranged for extra patrols in the area at the relevant times.”
PCSO Meaker is happy to discuss crime prevention, and can be contacted on 101 or by emailing Jessica.Meaker@devonandcornwall.pnn.police.uk.
