BRITISH Transport Police have released a CCTV image of a man they wish to identify after a bag stolen from a train in November was found in Barnstaple.

The theft took place on Tuesday, November 26 on a Birmingham to Plymouth train, but the bag turned up in Barnstaple three days later.

Investigating officer, PC Gary Archer, said: “The victim boarded a CrossCountry train at Birmingham New Street railway station to travel to Plymouth on Tuesday, 26 November.

“He put his bag in the luggage rack situated in coach D and took his seat. He went to check on his luggage when the train was in the Newton Abbot area and noticed the bag was missing.

“Three days later, a member of the public informed police that he found an abandoned bag in a street in Barnstaple, Devon. The bag was found to be the one stolen from the train.”

Enquiries have been ongoing to trace the person responsible for the theft but to no avail.

Officers are now seeking help from the public to identify the man in the image.

PC Archer added: “After reviewing CCTV footage, I would like to identify and speak to the man in these photographs as I believe he will have key information about the incident.”
