Several calls received from around North Devon ranging from accustations of witchcraft to strange lights in the sky.

ORB-LIKE lights in the sky and accusations of witchcrafts are just some of the strange 999 calls received by police from across North Devon.

A Freedom of Information Act reveals Devon and Cornwall Police has received seven calls reporting paranormal or extraterrestrial activity since 2010.

Last year there were three calls recorded including one caller reporting a ‘spiked stick which she can only describe as something maybe used in witchcraft’ in Ilfracombe.

Police attended an incident in Holsworthy in August last year after a 999 caller reported being burgled by paranormal beings she assumed were witches.

In October someone reported a large white globe in the sky ‘emanating light down over nearby forest’ in Bideford, which they believed was ‘not a UFO but a rave’.

Two calls were received from Holsworthy in 2012 – one in April where the caller reported a man was using witchcraft on her, and another in July who said her neighbours were in a witches’ coven and ‘running around outside screaming tongues’.

Another reported to have seen a UFO in the sky over South Molton in February 2011.

Other calls across the force outside of North Devon included reporting successful ghost hunts in Cornwall, ghosts sat in living room chairs and alleged animal rituals.

A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said: “Police would not attend an incident for the report of paranormal activity.

“An officer will however attend if there is concern for welfare for either the caller or another individual, or where there is reason to believe an offence may have occurred.”
