New ‘Section 30 order’ will run through the summer until after Barnstaple Fair.
Police have been granted fresh powers to disperse troublemakers in Barnstaple throughout the summer.
The Section 30 order applies to the town centre and means police officers or PCSOs can move on groups of two or more people from the area if they are suspected of causing alarm or distress.
If they return within 24 hours they can be arrested for breaching the order.
The powers came into effect on Sunday and will apply until Sunday, September 21 when Barnstaple Fair ends.
