Bideford street evacuated after ‘suspicious device’ discovered at town centre charity shop

Explosives experts close off Mill Street after concerned shop staff call police.
Police have evacuated part of Bideford after a ‘suspicious device’ was discovered with donations left at a charity shop in the town.
A 50-metre cordon has been put in place around the Children’s Hospice South West charity shop in Mill Street.
Police were called at around 2.20pm by concerned staff at the shop.
Officers currently at the scene have been joined by members of the Explosives Ordinance Disposal team.
A police spokesperson said: “Shops and neighbouring buildings have been evacuated as a precaution.”
