EDF Energy Renewables are proposing to place six 115m turbines on the land at Hollow Panson.

PLANS for a new wind farm between Holsworthy and Launceston have been submitted to Torridge District Council.

An application for six, 115m turbines on land near Chapmans Well was submitted this month by EDF Energy Renewables.

The Hollow Panson wind farm, if approved, would be capable of producing up to 12 megawatts of energy – enough to supple approximately 6,500 homes.

Tim Wheeler, development manager for onshore wind at EDF Energy Renewables, said: “Following consultation with local residents and the completion of detailed environmental studies, we recently submitted our planning application to Torridge District Council.

“EDF Energy Renewables is committed to developing new low carbon electricity generating capacity to maintain energy supply, tackle climate change, and maintain affordable energy prices.

“We believe that the site identified at Hollow Panson is an excellent opportunity to establish a wind farm that can contribute towards this.”

The company has proposed to establish a community fund to run for the duration of the wind farm’s life should the turbines be built.

“The communities nearest the site have already taken a lot of interest and we will continue to do our best to help them understand our proposals and talk through issues raised,” said Mr Wheeler.

“We are happy to discuss the best ways we can do this with Torridge District Council and the local parishes.”
