Developers submit plans for two to four bedroom houses at Westaway Plain.
PLANS have been lodged for 43 new homes at Westaway Plain in Pilton.
The detailed application submitted by Devonshire Homes is for two to four-bedroom houses including 12 affordable homes plus ancillary works.
The scheme for the site across the main road from North Devon District Hospital has proved controversial, with opposition from some residents living nearby and the plans have been amended following a public consultation in July.
“As a result of the consultation we have changed the layout to suit the topography and location,” said Steve Russell, interim managing director of Devonshire Homes.
“Furthermore, we have ensured the development will be well landscaped so that it is not visually imposing from the north and Westaway Plain where the existing trees are being retained.
“Similarly, we have strengthened the landscaping on the boundary with Shearford Lane and have included the option for a footpath within the site that will lead into Westaway Plain and across to the A39 trunk road for access to the hospital.
“The consultation feedback told us there is a need for a range of new houses in the area so our plans now include properties ranging from 2-bedrooms to 4-bedrooms designed in a rural setting.”
Devonshire Homes said it was expecting the application to be determined within the next 13 weeks.
