Developers say Atlantic Park will create 120 new jobs and target those currently unemployed.
A PLANNING application for two restaurants and 70-bedroom hotel in Bideford has been submitted to Torridge District Council today (Thurs).
Plans for the McDonalds, Brewer’s Fayre and Premier Inn were revealed by the Gazette in June.
The application for land opposite Atlantic Village is estimated by developers to create 120 full and part time jobs if successful.
A spokesman for the developers said: “The Brewers Fayre restaurant would be on Clovelly Road opposite the entrance to Atlantic Village on the east side of the proposed new access road and the Premier Inn, with car parking facilities, would be at the rear.
“The design incorporates local stone and is based on a traditional pub.
“The McDonald’s proposal is for a restaurant with drive-thru lane and customer parking with landscaping.
“The restaurant will also be located on Clovelly Road to the west of the proposed new access road.”
The plans came under scrutiny in a public consultation over the summer months.
Residents were worried at the loss of trees from the area and that the development would drive people away from the town.
But developers said the new facilities would create much needed jobs in the town.
The spokesman added: “It is expected that the majority of the operational and a number of the construction and supply chain jobs will be filled by local people.
“Whitbread is targeting 50 per cent of jobs in new site openings to local unemployed people.
“In other words, filling these first entry roles with the long term unemployed or those 16-24 year olds not in education, employment or training (NEETS).”
