Plans for 172 new homes at Anchorwood Bank have been submitted to North Devon Council.

The riverside houses would be built in Barnstaple as part of a huge regeneration project. Plans for an Asda superstore have already been approved and an application for a food and retail area was submitted last week.

The homes will range from one to five bedrooms in size, with most two or three-bedroom.

They will be made up of 102 townhouses and 70 apartments or penthouses. 135 of the properties will be open market and 37 social rent or shared ownership ‘affordable’ houses.

The layout of the site remains as shown at the public exhibition in September, with ‘a linear arrangement of homes to make the most of riverside views’.

There are two piazza areas and a central park.

The design of the buildings has been altered after consultation to reflect the current architectural character of houses in Barnstaple.
