New three bedroom house to be built in Corner Lane

PLANS to build a house in a Combe Martin garden have been approved by councillors.

The three-bed house in the garden of Ash Bank, in Corner Lane, was given the go ahead on Wednesday after no formal decision was made at last month’s North Devon Council planning meeting.

Permission had been granted on appeal for a two bedroom house in 2012, and some councillors felt that the new, larger application would attract families and therefore create more traffic on the private road.

Councillor Joe Tucker said of the original application: “it was turned down but overturned by the planning inspector, but now we are effectively overturning that decision because this is so much bigger than the original building.”

But Cllr Glyn Lane said of the application, whose agent is Cllr Malcolm Prowse: “if it was not the case that a councillor was bringing this application forward, it wouldn’t have even come before us.”

Residents of Corner Lane said at the meeting that the plans would have a ‘severe impact’ on the traffic and the road surface – which homeowners on the road maintain themselves.

Despite those concerns, councillors voted to approve the plans.
