Pipe band members will be donning their kilts and trekking up three peaks in 24 hours.

MEMBERS of a pipe band will be climbing the three highest peaks in the South West in kilts to raise money for a trip to Normandy.

The Bideford Youth Pipe Band has been invited to perform on Sword Beach in Normandy at the unveiling of the Bill Millin ‘D-Day Piper’ statue in June 2013.

To raise money for the trip, senior members of the band will be taking on the challenge on Sunday.

The intrepid pipers will climb Brown Willy in Cornwall, High Willhays in Devon and Dunkery Beacon in Somerset all in one day and will strike up the pipes at the summit of each.

The money raised will be split between the band’s trip to the statue’s unveiling in Normandy and the Bill Millin Statue fund itself.

Band secretary Mike Harper said: “Bill Millin was the famous D-Day piper who played the allied forces onto Sword beach during the famous D-Day landings of World War Two.

“If you are able to help or sponsor the band in any way, whether it is money, drinks, food, minibus, event promotion, or even plasters and a foot rub please contact the band.”

Mike can be contacted on 01237 422477 or by email on bypb@rockbymail.co.uk
