Pictures: Brazilian carnival time in Barnstaple

16:57 21 July 2014

Pupils and staff from Our Lady’s School take to the streets to celebrate the land of samba.

THE noise and atmosphere of Rio came to a quiet Barnstaple suburb on Monday as pupils and staff from Our Lady’s School took to the streets for a Brazilian Carnival.

The lively spectacle was watched by parents and residents as the whole school set off for a parade around nearby streets in colourful costume and with a variety of instruments they had created.

To tie in with the 2014 World Cup, pupils have spent the past term learning about Brazil, its people and customs.

After the parade – three whole circuits – the school gathered for samba dancing in the hall followed by a themed lunch.
