The first images of how a new North Devon leisure centre could look have been released.

North Devon Council is planning to build a new £8million leisure centre next to the Tarka Tennis Centre at Seven Brethren.

The current centre is reaching the end of its lifespan and councillors are keen to build the new centre as soon as funding becomes available.

Council members got their first glimpse of the artist’s impressions at a full council meeting on Wednesday evening.

At the meeting, Councillor Frank Biederman said: “It’s great to see plans moving forward for a new leisure centre.”

He asked if it could be possible to include leisure flumes at the new pool, to which council leader Cllr Des Brailey said: “Exeter is spending £25million just on a swimming pool without any extras, so we are under pressure to build ours for £8m.

“We will discuss any ideas, though.”

The plans currently include a competition pool, learner pool, a large health and fitness gym, and a four-court sports hall.
