THERE were smiles all around as Barnstaple played host to the second Fun Day hosted by North Devon charity Amigos yesterday (Saturday).

Despite the odd shower, the sun shone throughout most of the day as the town was awash with yellow balloons and painted faces.

On Castle Green the main event took place, with an It’s A Knockout style contest featuring inflatable jousting, sumo wrestling and zorb balls.

Teams from various businesses around North Devon battled through the rounds with the Holy Trinity team being crowned champions.

Children and adults alike also enjoyed face painting, henna tattoos, a bucking bronco, go kart racing and various stalls.

In the High Street, youngsters had a chance to meet and be photographed with Peppa Pig.

All money raised from the event will go towards helping young people in Uganda at the charity’s Kira Farm Training Centre.

“The second Amigos Fun Day was a roaring success,” said Phil Puglsey, CEO of Amigos.

“All of the teams had a great laugh and numerous families enjoyed the games and stalls in the sunshine.

“We’re extremely grateful to all of our sponsors, in particular Applegate, and to all of the volunteers who helped make the day happen.

“At Amigos we love the fact that by having a brilliant time people can change lives.

“Well over £3,000 was raised on the day, all of which will go directly to our projects in Uganda to help young people who have been affected issues such as poverty, war and HIV.”
