The MS Prinsendam of Holland America Line is scheduled to call in at the town in 2015.
A cruise ship with around 800 American passengers is making a return visit to Ilfracombe next year.
North Devon Council announced this morning (Thursday) that the MS Prinsendam of Holland America Line will be calling in at the town on July 26, 2015.
It first visited the town in July 2011, where passengers received a royal welcome and spent a day visiting Ilfracombe and surrounding areas.
After liaising with the ship’s agents Harbour Master Rob Lawson, has confirmed the return visit: “The planned stop by MS Prinsendam will be very much welcome,” he said.
“It follows good promotion of our town by the marketing group Destination South West, as well as negotiations with the ship’s agents - and no doubt the feedback from our American visitors last time around also helped secure the return.
“Recent boosts to the town, such as Verity in the harbour, have also helped raise the profile of Ilfracombe and I hope this latest cruise visit will encourage others to follow.”
Ilfracombe Mayor, Councillor Lynda Courtnadge said the visit would be a welcome boost to the local economy.
“it is another opportunity to promote the warmth of our hospitality, and the spectacular beauty of Ilfracombe and North Devon to a wider audience,” she said.
“I would like to thank Rob Lawson and Destination South West for organising this visit, and look forward to many more to come.”
Chairman of the Harbour Board, Councillor Geoff Fowler, added: “This is the culmination of months of work behind the scenes, raising the profile of our town for the cruise market. A big thanks should go to our harbour master and the marketing group.
“We are hoping this will pave the way for other maritime visits in the future, thereby helping the economics of our tourist industry.”
Destination South West is a marketing partnership, which aims to increase the number of cruise ships that call at south west ports. Ilfracombe’s membership to the partnership is jointly funded by North Devon Council and Ilfracombe Town Council.
