Hundreds enjoy the annual celebration of all things elephant
HUNDREDS enjoyed some huge fun on Saturday as Elephant Day returned to Barnstaple for a seventh year.
There was plenty to do on the Square, with Victorian fairground rides and a number of stalls surrounding a giant fake elephant – all to commemorate the discovery in 1844 of straight-tusked elephant fossils in nearby Summerland Street.
There were also a number of local crafts and foods on offer, plus face painting and live music from a youth marching band and Samba Baia.
The Elephant Parade took to the streets at 3.30pm, with the public getting involved in elephant costumes of their own.
